Yesterday Oct 2, was a big day. We crossed Lake Oneida. It is the biggest body of water on the canal, sort of like Lake Simcoe, but shallow which means that waves of 6 ft in height are not unheard of. Given that there was a 400lb mast laying across the deck, the crew had a little anxiety. Setting off early as the sun was coming up we began our crossing. Gratefully, there was no wind and no waves. Other than a big ass power boat that threw off a huge wake there were no incidents and we arrived safely. It took around 4 hours. Whew!

Back on the canal, the rain began and the captain had to be fed with hummus and blue corn chips because it was easily accessible.

After 5 locks, the crew arrived in Utica quite tired and hungry after the 48 mile journey. We thought we were coming into the Utica Marina, but it turned out to be an Italian restaurant, "Aquavino" which had docking facilities. Going in to pay for the docking fee we were overwhelmed by the smell of garlicky Italian cuisine and so tempted to make reservations. However, the captain was treated to a leftover turkey stir fry on board. Oh, the sacrifices.

We ended up staying an extra day here not only because of the weather, but we also had to tend to some electronics issues. The first mate had dropped the ipad awhile ago and my cell phone connection was wonky. We treked around town for hours trying to find a solution. We ended up at Walart buying a $40 android phone and an $80 android tablet. Good deal!
