Jon and I left on Friday morning at 6:30am and sailed for 24 straight hours for over 140 miles to get to Cape May the southern most tip of New Jersey. We took 2 hour shifts during the night, rotating from the cockpit to our sleeping bags. It actually wasn't that bad. Even though I was tired, I wasn't completely out of it. Seeing the skyline of Atlantic City from the ocean was quite special. It was almost surreal . Seeing large buildings with animated visuals and bright lights was so out of place from the stark isolation you feel 3 miles out from the coast in the dark. I never felt concerned, except for maybe running out diesel fuel ( but we never did ).

Arriving at 6:30 am in Cape May was nice. We stopped to add more fuel and had a large rooftop breakfast. We scrapple; a Pennsylvania breakfast meat and pork roll; a New Jersey breakfast meat. It was OK, but give me bacon and sausage from Canada anytime.

After breakfast we left to cross the Delaware river. It started out as a beautiful day but because of the wind direction and tidal currents, it was very sloppy out there ( a lot of rolling around ). In fact I went down below to make lunch and was tossed around so much I started to feel a little sea sick and had to go top side. This almost never happens to me, so you can imagine how wild it was. We got to the end of the 50 mile journey at around 9pm. As we made our way across the canal that joins the Delaware river and Chesapeake Bay, we stopped in Chesapeake City for a meal and stayed put to rest up for the night so we could make the push to Annapolis tomorrow.
