Day 2

Walked through town today and caught a few cool photos of some older buildings. The town is laid out with squares similar to Savannah but they haven’t been kept up. We saw quite a few derelict buildings crying out for some TLC and walked through some sketchy areas of town while searching for Adam’s grocery store.  “Human hair” was on a list of all the regular items they sell, just below meat, fruits, vegetables and beer. We didn’t dare ask. “GROG” was the name of the liquor store across the street. I think they have a sense of humour in Brunswick GA.

Day 3

Today we have been holed up, mostly indoors while the wind howls through the rigging. Luckily the boat isn’t rocking, just swaying side to side. I took advantage of the free laundry facilities and Allan watched from the companionway door while a tall ship, 122 feet long docked with its crew of student sailors. They attempted multiple times to land the boat in that wicked wind which was trying desperately to blow them away from the dock.  The Lynx is a huge, two masted schooner that calls Nantucket its home port. The training vessel was heading to the Bahamas to deliver educational supplies to those affected by hurricane Dorian.

We managed to walk into town for lunch at Tipsy McSway’s, a neighbourhood bar and grill that had been highly recommended. The burgers did not disappoint, stacked so high with a juicy patty and toppings galore you could hardly bite into it. Then Allan dragged me into Richland, a local rum distillery, voted the top American rum by Forbes magazine. He splurged on a bottle made with pure cane sugar and aged in Port casks. The Captain deserves  it. Forgot to tell you that Brunswick Landing Marina offers FREE BEER and back scratchers so the Captain is happy.
