A nice simple run this morning. Got a little chilly even though it was 18C today.

Many beautiful homes just outside of Savannah on the ICW. It was a very twisty path going from one river and creek to the other. It was so bizarre seeing some of the sailboats ahead of us going in completely different directions. You could see the masts meandering along over the distant marsh forming a twisted parade of boats. Again it seemed like we went a long way but didn't get far.

One of the famous treacherous areas here known by sailors is called "Hells Gate". It is a narrow path that combines the flows from three different rivers making it susceptible to shoaling. We were oh so lucky that this area had just been dredged about 2 weeks ago so it was smooth sailing for us. No issues or groundings.

We finally got to our stop which is Kilkenny Marina. A very simple place with not much going on but they have a safe dock that were able to tie up to with power, along a washroom and shower on shore. However the best part was the fabulous seafood restaurant just next door. We booked our "grey hair" reservation time of 5:30 and were rewarded with the best seafood we have eaten thus far. That is high praise given where we have eaten. Lynn had fried scallops and a wedge salad while I had crispy flounder, shrimp ( caught right here ), cheese grits and a local coleslaw. Fantastic. Also sampled a very delightful local IPA called Inshore Slam. PS: the craft brewed IPAs here in the US have really been wonderful. Who would have thought ?

The main source of income for the marina here is the selling of live bait. Lynn and I took a look at the live wells of shrimp that they have on the dock here that they sell to the local fisherman as bait !

FBG on the dock

It was just a little chilly but Lynn wanted to eat on the deck. The flame heaters helped for sure.
