The FBG crew left just before sunrise at 7am. The temperature was 4C so the Hudson River had a slight mist hanging over it. A surprising number of boats were also out at that time. The weather down to Sandy Hook, 60 miles away, was sunny albeit a little cool during the first portion. Tide and current fluctuations constantly affected our speed as we went down the Hudson.

When FBG passed under the George Washington Bridge it was a sign that we had finally arrived in New York.

Passing through the New York City portion was shall I say, nerve wracking. We needed to be constantly aware of the large amount of boat traffic at all times. High-speed ferries, water taxis, tour boats, barges, cruise ships and even kids out there on tiny sailboats made the journey "exciting". Boats were darting out suddenly from any of one the many piers that lined the river. I looked ahead for traffic while Lynn was watching astern. I couldn't imagine what it would be like on a July 4th weekend here.

After crossing Raritan Bay, we entered the Sandy Hook area and hooked up to a mooring ball at Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club at around 5pm. The crew was tired and had had enough. We settled down for a wonderful dinner that Lynn made in the galley along with a glass of wine.... of course.

This morning I had coffee in the cockpit watching the sun rise. It was glorious ( pic attached below )

We are waiting for the right winds for the journey outside on the Atlantic. According to the forecast that may not be until Wednesday. Ugh. We will wait here at Atlantic Highlands because it has everything and would be the best place to hold out until the weather is right.
