Southport NC - Cape Fear

Woooo Cape Fear. We just landed where the 1991 horror film Cape Fear was based on. Apparently they changed the name because the name Cape Fear didn't do much for property values. The ICW in this are is very tricky to navigate.

It was another beautiful day, sunny and warmer then yesterday. The trip was uneventful however it was stressful. There were constant warning messages on my navigation system about shallow water in the channel ( the path you are supposed to stay in ). Do you believe the software or do you go for the straight old "follow the middle of the channel markers ". Well we did a little of both and we were able to get through without grounding out. To make matters more difficult, there were times were there was a lot of current ( for and against you ). FBG saw speeds of 4 mph, typical when going against the current and up to 8.4 mph when with the current.

Anyway glad we got through it. Getting close to Myrtle Beach and I can't wait for Lynn to rejoin me there !

Glad to hear Lynn will be joining you , it sounds like your getting everything thrown at you but still able to enjoy your adventure , very cool. Have a great sail down to Myrtle.

I heard a nasty storm was hitting the area today / tonight. I peeked on the Port Dover Lighthouse web cam this afternoon and saw the dusting of snow in the background! Seems a little early to me.

Unlike us with almost 15 cm of snow, it looks so warm, beautiful and peaceful with blue water and palm trees. Reality check for us hearing the stress on the Captain navigating the waters, knowing it's not all that it appears. You're doing amazing Allan and I know one excited sailor ready to rejoin her Captain. So happy for this reunion!

It certainly not 15cm of snow,, but cold weather is just starting to hit us now. We knew it was coming so this is a non-trip day. Temperatures were 20C at around noon and will plummet to -2C by 5am. Winds are very high so the wind chill will be -9C here. Almost unheard of for this area. The front will break something like 140 records across the eastern seaboard.
